Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Member and Internationally renowned Film Editor, Story Editor, Creative/Editorial Consultant, Ricardo Acosta has been working in the film industry for over 25 years. He has been awarded with an Emmy, and has been nominated several times to Genie, Gemini, CCE and CS Awards

Ricardo came to Canada from his native Cuba in 1993, where he studied and worked at the world-renowned Cuban Film Institute in Havana.

He' s been a fellow of the Sundance Institute (as alumnus, teacher and Adviser) several years for the Documentary Editing and Story Lab and The Composer and Sound Design Lab.

His outstanding work and keen sense of the human condition has contributed to the making of several award-winning and award-nominated films that have premiered in several world film festival, including:

The Silence of Others (2018) Winner of Berlinale Panorama Documentary Audience Award 2018, Winner of the GOYA 2019 for Best Future Documentary + 40 other awards.

 Sembene! (2015) directed by Jason Silverman and Samba Gadjigo. Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and at the Cannes Film Festival.

Marmato (2014) directed by Mark Grieco. Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Ricardo was awarded Best Picture Editor in a Documentary at the  Canadian Cinema Editors Awards 2015, for his work in Marmato

Herman’s House (2012) directed by Angad Bhalla. Emmy winner for Outstanding Arts and Culture Programming 2013, and broadcasted by P.O.V.. Ricardo was nominated for Best Picture Editing in a Documentary  at the CSA Awards 2014 for his work in Herman’ s House.

Tiger Spirit (2008) directed by Min Sook Lee. Winner of The Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary and Genie Award 2009.

Runaway Groom (2005) directed by Ali Kazimi. Winner of The Donald Brittain Award for Best Social and Political Documentary.

The Take (2004) directed by Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis. Official selection at the Venice Film Festival, nomination for Best Picture Editing in a Documentary at the 20th Annual Gemini Awards
