El silencio de los otros

Ricardo Acosta was born in the Cuba of the Revolution although he currently resides in Toronto, from where he works as a documentary filmmaker. For Acosta, the documentary allows "progress towards social justice", a genre that makes "those who are anti-heroes to society become heroes".

Acosta was invited to join the Hollywood Film Academy in the 2017 class. For him, "each year the promotions are more diverse" with which the film industry "breaks with a monolithic power structure."

His most recent work, 'El silencio de los otros', deals with Francoist repression and historical memory. Acosta was always interested in the study of Francoism which he approached thanks to Lorca's poetry. The documentary filmmaker is clear on this matter: "There can be no justice if there is no reparation for the victim." This is something that also applies to his native Cuba: "We Cubans need to review our past."

Ricardo Acosta gave the editing workshop 'Is the documentary the fiction of reality?' that took place at Casa de América on June 28, 2018.
